Hi! I have a question. My son was technically considered a sophomore at the beginning of the Fall because he lost a few credits during transfer process to a new school. Anyway, because he was a sophomore he was not able to borrow enough money. It has been a struggle (between him having to work more hours than he would have liked and us contributing) but this semester is about paid off. Next semester, he will be classified as a junior. Is there a way that he could borrow that extra money mid year? Would they be able to increase his loan amount based on status changing to junior mid year? Or would he have to wait until the new award letter for next year to be eligible for the additional money? This would only be for the Spring because he plans to move off campus by the next school year to save money that is being paid on dorm/food. He is going to financial aid office Monday but I was just wondering if anyone here had the answer. Thanks.

Yes, you son should be allowed to request the additional loan funding. They won’t do it automatically though, so once grades are posted have him contact the financial aid office

Great. Thank you Mittentigger!

Thank you mom2collegekids!

I just wanted to update this thread in case others have this question. The financial aid counselor said that he will be eligible for additional aid once his grades post. However, he would not be eligible for the full amount. They will divide it in half because he was not eligible during the first half. She said all loan disbursements are divided in half.
