Increased Merit Aid?

"Furthermore, Rice will increase both need-based and merit-based financial aid offerings. For families whose income is $60,000 or less, Rice will meet 100% of need eligibility without student loans. In addition, we will increase merit aid so that more families from all income levels will find Rice to be the best choice for undergraduate education in the country."

Does anyone know about how many people will receive merit based aid this year?

Historically, about 20% of Rice students receive some type of merit aid. Another 37% have a need based award.

really? wow that's a lot of merit aid. but then again, not that many students accepted, so that percentage is going to be high. but needbased seems really low. oh well I don't care about that lol

yeah they weren't specific about their plans, which obviously came as a result of Harvards thing. this is great news tho. and it will also help them in their goal to boost their reputation, because merit aid is one of the best ways to do it
