Hello, :)

I'll try and keep it short.

I'm entering a university as a freshman. They gave me a $30,000 scholarship. They also listed several grants and two small (<$2,000) loans under 'My Eligibility.' That managed to cover basically everything.

I created a separate e-mail account for the school a little while ago, but I still expected main info to go to my regular e-mail account. I shouldn't have.

I checked that college e-mail account today (I was quite negligent) and a little less than a month ago they were requesting 'Outstanding Requirements' like verification, my mom's tax return and W-2 forms. I'm faxing it all off tomorrow morning.

My questions are since I'm late sending this information off, will I lose my scholarship and eligibility? Even if I already accepted them?

I appreciate any help. Thanks! :)

You need to call the school and find out. I would say it’s unlikely, but the only way to know for sure is to talk to their financial aid staff.

A small percentage of people get pulled to have their FAFSA information verified. We were pulled for exam by one of the colleges that my daughter had requested to receive the FAFSA results (lucky for us it wasn’t the school she was attending; no fraud on our part but I was happy not to have to deal with it).

Odds are that the financial aid will stay the same, but call the FA office as soon as you can because it may mess up the Stafford loans and that deadline is coming up fast, I think.

The deadline for stafford loans for this next school year are not approaching soon.

Whew. At least it’s ‘unlikely’ I’ll lose it. There’s no way I could go to this school without their aid.

I e-mailed the finaid office. They got back to me in a few minutes and just told me to send immediately. I asked him if I could still fax it today even though it was past their office hours. He e-mailed back five minutes later and simply said ‘Yes.’

I hopped in the car with my mom, went to Publix, and faxed all of the documents. The confirmation came back as ‘OK.’ The only thing is that the W-2 form had to be from your employer rather than your tax preparer. My mom only had the latter. So she has to get the employer form tomorrow and she’ll fax it then.

Thanks for the help, guys!

I am a little confused by this. The w-2 is the statement your MOM received from her employer that was used by the tax preparer to do her taxes. Any copy of the w-2 would be FROM the employer. Tax preparers don’t issue w-2 forms…unless I have been misinformed…which is very possible.

Our tax program produced a sort of W2 look alike form when I entered the W2 data. I wonder if that is what the OP sent. But yes, you would need a copy of the actual W2, not one generated by a tax program or preparer.

There are no deadlines for Stafford loans that I am aware of.

Some schools do set a deadline, but it would be closer to the end of the actual term of enrollment. Loans have to be originated during an eligible period of enrollment … so there is that deadline for sure. I just had a young lady in tears the other day because she finally got all of her info together for her file & I completed it … but the term is over & she is not enrolled for summer so she can only get her Pell (no loans).

Everything I faxed is in (I also did the Entrance Interview for the loans. I did that through the gov’t website so I just have to wait a day or two for that to go through), but I’m struggling to find my mom’s W-2. I don’t know how it works honestly. It’s just that the one I have a copy of isn’t what they want. I’m freaking out a bit trying to look for it.

Your Mom should know where her W2s are. Most people file them with copies of their taxes. If she used an accountant then they may have them.

I’m the one that lost them (I managed to keep track of the other documents when we initially filed the FAFSA back in Feb).

She called the accountant and he’s going to check his files in his main office and the files in his other office. My mom also called her job and they said that they will check their files in the morning as the woman who handles that will not be in the office until 9am in the morning.

Right now, I’m searching frantically around my room for the papers. I know any sympathy you might have had for me has gone down the drain completely, but I promise I’m not as incompetent as this situation is making me sound. Well. Back to searching.

Thanks for the help! :)

Alright. My mom’s job is faxing the W-2 form to her. That’s taken care of. breathes a sigh of relief

I have another quick question. How long does it take the Master Promissory Note and
Entrance Interview for First Time Federal Stafford Borrowers take to process usually?

Thanks again! :)

It’s all online. Once you do it I think it is processed pretty much instantaneously. It is pretty quick anyway.

Just an update: Neither my mom’s W-2 nor the Entrance Interview/MPN have been processed yet as of now.

Another update: My mom’s W-2 form is in and accounted for. sigh of relief

The MPN and Interview have not been processed yet, but I sent an e-mail awhile ago and the office stated that it would take two weeks for it to be listed as ‘Reviewed.’ It’ll be two weeks come this Friday.

Thanks again! :)

Glad it is all coming together.
