Indecision...brown vs amherst

your thoughs on this decision are welcome

God that is a really, really tough choice.

The main difference is the size and location.

Any preferences?

At Amherst, you'll get a warm and a "'community' atmosphere, with their small classes and an overall small freshman class. At Brown, there's a chance of 'getting lost in the crowd'.

Of course, Amherst is #2 in the nation amongst the Liberal arts colleges, Brown is #15 in the national universities.

Moreover, I feel that since Amherst is home to three reputable universities (Amherst College, Hampshire College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst), it'll be more 'student-freindly' and there'll be much more opportunities for students, compared to those available in Providence (which doesn't have any other good univ apart from Brown).

So, think deeply about it and decide.

amherst is no more or less student friendly than brown.

my feeling is you will get an equally good humanities education at both places but more opportunities in the sciences and social sciences because in those disciplines quality very much depends resources for research.

there are advantages to both, but those specific to brown include access to a larger and more powerful alumni network and a less isolated environment (particularly important if you have interests in community outreach, like going out, etc.)
