I recently applied for and got into an independent research class next semester that I will be taking as overload (7 classes versus the normal 6). Since I’m already slated to do a summer research project anyway, would it be worth it to stay in this class? My schedule next semester is really tough, with:
AP Lang
AP USH
AP Calc BC
AP Chem
AP Physics C EM
AP Comp Sci
So I’m in a dilemma about whether I should do the independent research or focus on my other classes.
That schedule looks pretty stressful already, especially since you are doing AP Chem and AP C E&M together. The question is what do you really want to do? Is research something you enjoy or something you’d feel bad giving up? If so, I would say stay with the research class and drop one of your AP’s (since it’s already an overload). Also, are you a junior or a senior? If you’re a junior you still have plenty of time to take more AP courses–no need to cram them into one year. If you can, do one AP science this year and the other next year.
