Independent science research competition (similar to Young Epidemiology Scholars)

Hi, I'm a high school junior interested in science research, especially epidemiology. I am planning to conduct research this summer and enter the Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) competition next year as a senior. I would also like to enter the Siemens and Intel competitions. However, they seem a little above my level and I don't know if I will be able to gain that much in-depth knowledge about my topic by doing research in a lab.

I would like to know about competitions similar to YES that don't require research in a lab and that can be done by conducting primary and secondary research independently. Thank you!

I think you should try Siemens and Intel. Intel’s paperwork took me almost a full day to fill out, but the rewards are amazing. You should definitely look into it.

Anonymous 93: Only a day?! Haha. It would probably take me a lot longer.

I am considering doing Siemens and Intel, especially because I am applying to summer research programs now (just decided to over the last couple of days). Was your lab work really intense? Have you been doing it all of high school? It seems like many CC-ers (and other competitive research science high school students) have a real advantage.
