So I’m attending a small private school and currently taking 4 APs this semester (including AP Comparative Gov. as an independent study) and I’ve been wondering how much would the Independent Study course help me in my college application for the top schools. I’m applying as a Political Science major and the school does not offer neither of the AP government classes until the second semester of my senior year, which is when they offer AP US Gov. Would they emphasize the presence of an AP Gov. independent study on the transcript more than the actual AP score that I receive?
Bump
Colleges place most of the emphasis on classes, because that is what you will do in college. They do not take into account AP test scores much as many people will take AP tests after they are admitted.
Will your transcript show you are taking AP Gov? Will you get grades? Or is it just about a time for you to self-study?
Yes, it shows on the transcript, not as a regular self-study. There would also be grades on it since I’m completing weekly assignments, but since the course is not offered, I’m the only one “taking” AP Gov and it shows as an “Independent Study: AP Comparative Government” on the transcript. How well would that play in college admissions?
Bump?
Go for it.
