I think 1450 is the lucky number, FunkyMonkey! My sister got into Cornell (UPenn+CMU also) with a 1450/1600 in GRE.
LOL

cornell defer… went by the amazing acceptance rates of Cornell!..

well, well, I am really at a loss right now… everything seems so bland!..

To the ones who got in… Congratulations!.. And yeah, thanks for the amazing essay advice…

Ah, thank you. Always my two cents, maybe worth a little more now that I’m in. This is like the stock market. :P

Yes, my dad helped me GET an internship at IBM. Unlike what you’re probably thinking though, I am doing the whole thing completely on my own. This wasn’t a part of my Cornell application anyway, just a venture I started later on.

Tippu - lol. Not one. I meant some. All the same. :P

Aniruddh - my specific advice to you. Retake the SAT until you get a 1450. ;)

You’ll probably get in RD. A lot of people apply judging by the acceptance rates. I’d be lying if I said that didnt strike me. However, there are always recruits, legacies, etc. etc. And we are internationals and that too Indians. Worst possible criteria.

@FunkySATMonkey: Did you get the official letter and financial aid details ?? I 'm so eagerly waiting for it …cant go without aid !!

Enjoy man. Have a great year ahead.

congo once again. :)

@nbagga - Hey! Congo to you too man.

Would you mind to post your stats and profile with which you were accepted.
Also post the FinAid amount % requested. please.

Are you from Kol too?

congrats funky, nitcomp! it is great to get ED to Cornell! No more tensions!
what about Fin Aid?

I applied for around 60% aid. Unfortunately, Cornell’s a little stingy.
They sent me a financial aid decision the day I got my acceptance letter itself. What it basically said was that
a. We think you’re rich enough to pay.
b. We dont have enough money to pay for you.
c. If you want to pull out of the ED commitment, go ahead.
However, it’s gonna be extremely difficult for me to finance my education without at least 20% aid so I asked them to reconsider me. They haven’t replied as yet though. If the there’s no way out, I think my father will be able to pay, by hook or by crook. God forbid that situation arises though. :(

wow, quite a few people from kol it seems…hi to all!

to the people above, can you suggest something that can be done about the defer situation? I mean, it seems a bit weird to wait till april( and have my heart breoken again!)

Also, fin aid that stingy??? tough luck… I really would hate a student life with a huge debt riding on me!.. I’m quite worried…:(.:(

thanks,. no i am not from kolkata. im from jamshedpur[ 4 hrs from kol ] well i have applied for u can say >90% aid, but doesnt cornell have the ratan tata scholarships for Indians… well my SAT 1 - math - 760 cr- 710 writing-710 sat 2- math2- 800 chem- 790 physics- 750. Umm i feel i have a good school record top 2% , icse- 97.4% … well Ec’s were not that astounding ok but… but i feel my essays must have been rhe determining thing along with the Rec’s.

What sort of ECs?

Bbaal, other varsity sports, science related…volunteer work…

what were your essays about?

@nbagga… I studied in LFS, but was in convent as a kid… Anyway, which school are you from???

Yeah…do tell us more about your application… and the fin. aid decision when you do get it…best of luck for that!

nbagga -
Greater than 90% aid?? Check your email, maybe they’ve sent you your aid package. I’ve never heard of Cornell giving more than 75% aid to an international ever. That is going to be very hard. Best of luck with that.
