Lol hwachong ppl wunna spoil da show hahaz =D

Yea Frank, totally what I was sayin the whole time. Internationals, esp from Singapore are particularly stellar.

But this year’s ISEF team from Singapore was MIA due to the swine flu episode. But I got competition from the 2 of the 5 IPhO medalists (silver btw) and the one and only, Gold medalist in IChO from my school :(

and Btw, is EPGY THAT prestigious. I mean, it is pretty easy to get in (a few from my school) and the course loads arent particularly hard. I guess even NUS modules are tougher than EPGY man…

And don’t forget you are competing with the rest of Singapore too - your council presidents, your sports leaders (Harvard used to love squash players from Singapore for a while back =p), your IBO world 1st etc… So good chances, but not a shoo-in. Good luck anyway!

True, but it might give a leg up in admissions to Stanford, especially if you can convince the EPGY instructor to put in a rec to Stanford admissions on your behalf =p

I was from Singapore as well, from ACS(I), the IB programme. Your ECs are really impressive, and i am not belittling you in any way, however, you ECs are leaning too much towards research and science for the ivies IMO. Harvey Mudd will be a great option. Try applying to Cooper Union as well, who knows? If you apply to research unis and technical ones, your application will be strongs than of HYPS might look at it. Again, only my opinion. And why are you not applying to MIT?

I wonder if the Ivies prefer applicants, who clearly have a math/science slant and have achieved high levels of recognition in 1 or 2 areas, or well-rounded applicants (with science/math ECs, aesthetic ECs, sports, community service, etc.), who may not be so accomplished in any one area.

Even among the ivies, I only chose those colleges with decent engineering programs. Princeton was a good choice coz 1) they are need-blind to internationals 2) they have a decent engineering program, albeit not as stellar as some other tech colleges.

I am mainly banking on my research for admissions, and I heard that atleast for the tech colleges (like caltech, MIT), they are really impressed by research portfolios (3 out of 5 applicants from my school got into MIT last year). But I am not too sure about the ivies
