Indian Thread

hey, there was a syasha on the prev indian thread rite?? any idea where she is now??

and yeah, wat exactly is 'affirmative action' ??

Affirmative action- a pain in the ass imho :p

this is what it actually is:

Affirmative action or positive discrimination is a policy or a program providing advantages for people of a minority group who are seen to have traditionally been discriminated against. This consists of preferential access to education, employment, health care, or social welfare.

Which basically means that if a URM with exactly the same stats and you are competing for a place in a school, then the school's going to admit the URM over you. The unfortunate thing about this is the fact that a lot of times, URMs with worse stats are chosen over more qualified candidates. Which totally sucks, seeing that all of us constitute over represented minorities :(

Sucharita:

1) You didn't apply to H,P for the sake of it. You knew you have a chance of getting in.

2) Remember I was going to withdraw my H app? grin guess what, I checked my app status one last time, and now they say it's complete...

3) I have not received an App Complete postcard from P even though my app was completed by December

syasha is probably studying her butt off for the boards (isc to cbse convert!)

Thats nice. So I assume you wont be withdrawing your app :p

Affirmative action sounds just like a diluted version of reservations with a fancy name, except there is no upper limit to the number of people who get in on it.

Im losing the little sanity i possess, aren't I.

why? whats the matter?

I thought my last post was a little, well, off. Thats kinda how my lifes going right now. I studied for a whole 5 hours for my biotech exam!

To make things clear that is BAD. I wanted to work my butt off for 4 whole days and pull a fast one on that exam. Ended up screwing the damn thing.

oh that...don't worry I'm in the same boat. I figured I'd spend 3 days on Physics and do the whole thing properly...well the exam is tomorrow and I havent started studying yet (amply evinced by the fact that I'm still on CC:()

sigh........THOSE were the days of crammin for Alevels.......brings back memories.......sigh........ :D

yeah, i don't agree with merc's reasoning either! wanting to get in someplace is one thing and having a good shot at it is another :p

Well, I dont have another exam till Monday, and thats maths. So im going to spend these days freaking out over the fact that somewhere, someone knows whether i got into MIT or not, and I have no way of confirming my gut feeling until i get that thin envelope.

I sincerely hope your gut feeling is proved wrong :)

guys check my thread in the cornell forum called - "should cornell be my safety?"

lol I think i have .01 % chance of getting into Cornell which is almost next to nothing. ( cmon i applied to 4 safeties( really big oneS) schools for goodnessake !)

Anyway good to know veritas misunderstood the purpose of my thrad :D and Neha i made my thread as a retaliation to the thread you mentioned:)

oh that makes sense :)

astrix I think you're right veritas160 is probably mensa160's counterpart. Obviosly we arent the only ones making alter egos :p

so what, every new fella who wants to join us now will be viewed with suspicion as some regular with alter ego........
hehe, tt will be fun, kinda raggin the newbies........ :D

veritas didnt want to join us. He just wanted to prove a point to nomad :p
