Indiana frat; is this an abberation or should we be concerned?

So I am wondering how common this sort of thing is? I remember being cautious with frat guys but this is way above and beyond what I would have imagined was going on.

I know for a fact, that both in my days, and currently, hiring is strippers and/or escorts for events is not entirely uncommon. One of my buddies (my generation) and discovered, his not so bright son, placed a 4 figure credit card charge, to an agency that basically delivers strippers to personal residences. For that, his son, was placed in a timeout at a community college for a semester.

Hiring strippers is one thing. Forcing someone to have oral sex when they don’t consent is quite another thing; it’s rape.

The story said it “appeared” to have been forced without any confirmation. It turns out, once the people involved were identified and interviewed, it was 100% voluntary.

Well, I didn’t click on the link, but my observation is that there is a lot of territory between “forced” and “100% voluntary.” I think one of the reasons that young people engage in really bad behavior is because of intense peer pressure. It’s particularly bad if the pressure is coming from more senior authority figures in an organization that matters to you.

Are we worried about rape of the paid sex worker or the frat brother performing oral sex on her? Either way, permit me to express a lower level of concern than I have about, say, roofie-ing freshman women. In the case of the frat brother, you may have a hard time meeting the legal definition of rape in lots of jurisdictions.

Not that this isn’t offensive. It is. But in my personal version of Inferno, the perpetrators of this particular outrage get to stay on a much higher tier than the freshman roofie-ers.

I was worried about the rape of the hazed student, assuming that the paid sex worker agreed to the oral sex but the hazed student was physically prevented from stopping and forced to continue.

I will say this, especially in male culture, the peer pressure places you in situations and circumstances that it is rare for someone to say, “I’m uncomfortable doing this and I pass.” This is especially true with frosh and their want of approval with juniors and seniors. I was never in a fraternity, but played in a big time sports program, and it’s the same power dynamics.

  1. It is not clear to me whether it is a pledge or a member. I think that is important.
  2. If he is a pledge, I think there is a decent case that he could have been coerced into it by his peers. If he is a member, it is still possible, but less compelling to me.
  3. I do not see any reasonable argument for the woman being held accountable for raping the man. How could that be? It doesn't look like she is forcing him to me. What am I missing?

The male in the video has been IDed as a 21 year old frat member, not a pledge.

Wow, it’s really shocking that everyone got so worked up about something before getting all the facts. /s

@ivygreeklife so hiring a women for cunnlingus is now ok?

I am sure that everyone is shocked - shocked! - to know that prostitution exists in the USA.

@boolaHI Sure why not? If they had met in a bar would this be an issue? Why should throwing money into the equation make something illegal that was perfectly legal to do for free.

First, it’s still illegal. Two, it’s a institution of higher education. Three, would your opinion change if the woman in question was your sister or mother–you still cool with it??

Of course it’s illegal, I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of it being illegal. I thought that was obvious. And as far as I know they didn’t do this on campus. As long as they’re two consenting adults I don’t see the issue. In response to your third question the answer is no, I’m sure both of my sisters have both performed and received oral sex before. I don’t see that as surprising or controversial.

No, I mean in public, for the jocular entertainment of frat boys…

Whatever makes ya happy. I’m sure I’ve done many stupid things my family disagrees with, and while that would probably top anything I’ve ever done it wouldn’t make me love them any less. But this seems to be digressing. Your original question was whether it was “ok” to hire a woman for cunnilingus. Bringing my family into it seems to be straying from the point a bit. I don’t see a logical argument that could stem from this that would prove your point of why money suddenly makes this act evil.

And your point, or attempt to defend, is entirely outside the scope and purpose of an educational institution–period. So, please continue you with your nouveau enlighten posture, but the fact of the matter is that the President of Indiana himself, shut down the house immediately. His action speaks for themselves, it’s was at once deft, swift and definitive.

Once again, right over your head. No where did I mention Indiana.
