Indiana University worth Out of State Tuition?

Hey guys, thanks for looking at my post,

My situation is this: I want to go into investment banking and my choices between colleges are Michigan State, Indiana Unversity, and University of Michigan-Dearborn. I've been trying to figure out whether or not IU is worth it to pay out of state tuition. I know they have the Investment Banking Workshop which offers 100% placement if you are accepted into the program, but tuition for me would be 40K the first year and around 30 the next three. Do you think this is the best/only way to break into Investment banking? Would it be better for me to attend Michigan State, get a great GPA and try to break in that way. Or the third option going to University of Michigan's sister campus and try to transfer in?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

I don’t know a whole lot about the other two, but Indiana’s program is really pretty great. IU could bring you many connections and network opportunities but MSU is probably able to say the same. Kelley is a great school, but out of state is really steep and (I’m thinking you might be living in Michigan? Not sure.) in state at MSU could save you a lot of money and provide similar benefits, though possibly maybe a little less.

Indiana is great in that major but if financial needs is a major factor for you, another university might do just as well.

Around here, we get a lot of families who think so. And not just for Kelley. How are you going to get a $10K break the following year, may I ask?

If you and your family can afford it, yes. But if you have to borrow more than your Student Direct Loans amounts, and your family is being pressed financially by the differential, no. Mich State is a great school. I know a number of kids who went OOS to there.

But where I am coming from, any school is “worth it” for a student who wants it, who has a family that is willing and truly able to afford it. And I don’t mean borrowing to danger levels and having mom take a second job scrubbing Port a Johns for it.
