Which would provided a better undergraduate enviorment/ program? I am an American who wants to study Chineese and Tibetan Culture/ languages. Each school has a program, but which one is a better buy?

Okay, let’s discuss the pros and cons of each school and each program:

Indiana–Pro–well known school for top foreign language programs, probably best school in the country for Central Asian languages, school is higher ranked than Oregon
Indiana–Con–not as well known for Eastern Asian language program, school is not as highly ranked as Toronto

Indiana cost for tuition–about $24,000 US dollars (and then you have to add in housing, food, books, and transportation)

Toronto–Pro–top ranked school of those listed, foreign language program fairly diverse, located in the largest city in Canada
Toronto–Con–college is known as a business college, not so much for humanities or foreign language programs, program focused on culture, very little on languages

Toronto cost for tuition–about $22,000 Canadian dollars (includes extra medical plan required)–which is about $18,900 US dollars (and then you have to add in housing, food, books, and transportation)

Oregon–Pro–known as a school that is focused on international programs and international business, particularly with Pacific Rim (China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore), good program for Chinese and Japanese languages
Oregon–Con–lowest ranked college (overall) of all the schools (just slightly)–still ranked in USNWR’s first tier (same as Toronto and Indiana), a bit tough to get to, since you have to take a bus or train from Portland (although, overall it is closest to Asia), smallest school in size–like in number of buildings and area (is this a pro or a con?)

Oregon cost for tuition–about $19,600 US dollars (and then you have to add in housing, food, books, and transportation).

If it were me, I’d probably choose Oregon–but as you can see, it really depends upon what is most important to you. If you are coming from China, you’d probably wonder where all the people are if you go to Oregon or Indiana, since the towns are a lot smaller than Toronto. So, in that case, Toronto might fit you better. And, of course, if you want a school that specializes in foreign languages, then Indiana would be the best choice.

Good luck with your decision.

Indiana has a good relationship with Dalai Lama though.

thanks alot for taking the time for answering my question, it is greatly appericated
