@conscience13 this year, not that I know of. Sorry.
But I’ve heard that most of the few that were offered were near Delhi - previous years.

Guys, I have a question for all of you:
Since we’re ORM and international - which puts us at a disadvantage - what would you say is your hook?
Something that might just get your foot in the door, or across the finish line for that matter.
For eg: any particular EC or say a unique experience?

For colleges like MIT, Stanford etc. and STEM related majors, adcoms almost always look for Olympiad medals at national and preferably international levels.
There were some with absolutely no ECs who got into ivies; this was mainly because of the lack of time and opportunities as these students went to schools that run 12-14 hours per day. Their essays probably showed loads of dedication, ambition and perhaps gave the vibes that they would really do something if there were opportunities available to them.
So, it is really difficult to tell what the hook is.
I don’t think I have any hook. Neither was I ever into science and math Olympiads nor did I pursue my ECs at national and international level :P

I was just wondering if Harvard interviews depend on not just availability of interviewers but also merit of the applicant. This is what is written on their website:

“If you are located in one of these countries, you are in an area where we have a limited number of interviewers. If the Admissions Committee requires more information about you, you will be contacted by the Admissions Office.”

And, India is one of the countries mentioned in this list.

@Qwerty1739 …you were saying you know some people from Delhi who got interviews during previous years. Any idea if most of them got in?

I don’t remember saying that. :o
Harvard and MIT interviews are selective fyi.

oh sorry!!! it was @StanCardinal
ohk thanks! so they are selective!!

Interviews are still being scheduled; I got an email from a Brown alum this afternoon. And yeah, Harvard interviews are selective.

But not to worry here.
A possibility could be that you’re on their radar but a lack of interviewers or perhaps in a city where interviews aren’t even offered.
And nope, I don’t know any of them personally.

Btw, how many ivies have you guys applied to (and which ones)?.

Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Cornell, Columbia, Penn, Brown.

How strong do you think your chances are?
Or let me rephrase that - do you think your application is ivy material?
(What about others, to all my above questions^^)

I have no idea what Ivy material is. I think my application is okay, but there are several more qualified applicants applying to the Ivy League colleges from India.

I am applying to Ivies! I’ve gotten interviews from 3 of them- Princeton, U Penn, and Brown. I applied to a whooping 14 colleges. Fingers crossed here :).

@Qwerty1739 …true that! my Princeton interviewer was saying that over 500 applied from India. And we all know how many people get in every year. Less than 10!
@BetterThanBest …14 colleges! must have been a nightmare finishing all the essays. I haven’t applied to Brown but I heard they ask quite a few questions! I have applied to 9 colleges but most, like Dartmouth, Penn etc., didn’t need the applicant to write many extra essays, so it was manageable.

I applied to 15!
How long did the interviews last for you guys? Most of mine were exceptionally short.
(Princeton: 25-30 min, Penn: 10 min, MIT: 80-90 min, UChicago: 25-30 min)

my Princeton interview was an hour and a half!!! but mostly because we were having a very interesting conversation. Penn was 45 minutes.
@Qwerty1739 …how come your Penn interview was just 10 minutes…I have never heard of such a thing! Interviews are at least 30 minutes. Did the interviewer give you any reason? or you might want to let Penn know about this anomaly so that it doesn’t work against you. But anyways, interviews really don’t matter that much so you might just take it light!
And also, if you don’t mind telling me, when did you have your UChicago interview? I am asking because I am wondering if I should email UChicago regarding the interview since I wasn’t contacted by any interviewer. Do you think I should? Any idea if it depends solely on availability of alumni?

My interviewer seemed pretty rushed with his office stuff and we both spoke very fast, so it ended rather quickly I guess. It wasn’t /very/ bad and anyway barring H and MIT, interviews don’t matter much, so I’m not contacting Penn (besides I’m lazy ).
I applied EA to UChicago, so my interview was held in late November . It entirely depends on availability of alumni afaik, and I don’t know any RD applicant from my city who got an interview either.

thank you …oh btw…I just realised you got an MIT interview as well…that is BRILLIANT!! Congratulations! I heard only shortlisted candidates get interviews. :D

Hi Guys! I’m new here. What’s this news about MIT etc having selective interviews. Would you know how many people in India are interviewed by MIT and Harvard each year?
