On a side note, how is this thread helping rising college students prepare for, and become informed about tests and test preparations? It's about tests, not races who take the tests. I didnt think the forum was titled SAT and ACT Tests and Test Preparation for ___(insert ethnic group).

UserNizzle, I meant Public schools that aren't top notch academics, like Drexel and Temple (no offense to those schools though)

delete. man the only good thing said here was harold and kumar go to white castle...now that was funny lmao the INDIAN DUDE scored perfect on his MCATS but all he wanted to do was smoke mary jane. haha

why would we want to be white?

oh wait the statement "they both want to be white lol" is on the first page. And this is a weird thread cuz you're talking about a few Asians and Indians living in America, for the Indians and Asians staying in their own countries, test scores suck...trust me, my mates get scores in the 1100's. I dunno bout the rest of Asia, but Indians tend to think themselves as having superior intelligence, which of course they dont. But it is true that both categories can work their asses off, and thats what counts. I'd rather be hard working than intelligent.

Addition: India is a part of Asia, but I don't think we really consider ourselves as Asian. That's why the term Indian subcontinent was coined.

fyi, drexel is a private school.

but anyways i think that culturally, asians/indians are pretty similar (they both usually place a heavy emphasis on education), but because asians are from one region and indians are from another, there's sortof a drift that separates them and thus leads to the two different classifications as Havaldaar mentioned. also, there are pretty major differences in terms of religion/looks so that's another thing to note. just think Harold and Kumar, like tiger said lol.

also- i'm indian, and i know that i don't really consider myself to be "Asian." and yes, it's bad to make generalizations, but they're pretty funny. and even though they're such common stereotypes, they're definitely true.

Drexel is a private school? whatever, i pretend its public

Only the smartest Asians and Indians get to America in the first place. thats why their offspring score high.

"Only the smartest Asians and Indians get to America in the first place. thats why their offspring score high."

This could be argued for both ways. Yes, many of the Asians & Indians in the US are well-educated and somewhat wealthy to start with. Family influence probably has a lot to do with why the "Asian" category scores well on standardized tests. However, there are plenty of Asian & Indians who come here with little to nothing, so it wouldn't be fair to make such a broad generalization.

I'm Chinese, btw.

Both are good in Math neither is good in English lol

I'm an Asian and I'm the best English student in my grade. Then again, I was born in Canada, although English did not become my primary language until I entered kindergarten.

"Only the smartest Asians and Indians get to America in the first place."

yeah, it's predominantly the smartest, but also the wealthy and those that can afford it.

I think the "good in math" and "neither is good in English" was a joke, considering Asians and Indians do better in both

my dads friends are all indian profs for example

dude the only reason i personally do well in academics is because my parents are up my ass about it and would probably disown me if i didnt do well on everything. and i think this goes true for most of the asians (including indians) that are considered "smart". all the asians i know with lax parents do ****ty in school. from my experience, it seems that all the asians who do so well in school and stuff not only have the personal drive that all top students have, but also the insanely nagging parents threatening them and pushing them to achieve. but thats just what i happen to experience here in ct, maybe its different elsewhere.

ok, well i'd say indians and asians in America are smarter too

this thread is just so funny.

i agree that indians/asians are "smarter" in america. there's sortof a lot of diversity at my school, and the majority of people assume that just cause i'm indian, i'm naturally smart and especially good at math and science, which i'm not.

that goes against the normal stereotype cause i'm definitely better at english/history, etc. and i actually have to work a lot harder at quantitative subjects. plus, my parents aren't really "up my ass" about grades and stuff. for indian parents, they want what's best for me, but they aren't gay about it, which is pretty awesome and rare, at least around here.

I'm a Korean, I don't have nagging parents, and I do just fine.

And we don't want to be white... you racist. I'm sick of all these statements.

yo, all of you guys are generalizing. stop being ignorant.

Stereotypes are a bad thing and I feel one cannot assume that just because a person is asian or indian he/she has godlike math skillz. One of the reasons we see many asians and indians in competitive Universities is because these ethnic groups make up a majority of the earth's populace. Because intelligence is somewhat of a genetic trait, intelligent people in foreign nations worked hard to come to America and met intelligent soulmates. Next, the stork pays a little visit and Bammm! (No, not the cooking show) intelligent children. This is my explanation for the large body of intelligent people of asian and indian backgrounds

thehammerspake, you also have to consider how much better public education in China versus the United States. Secondly, I said nothing in my previous statement regarding the financial situation of people moving into this country. I said "intelligence is a genetic trait". I guarantee your parents had to work hard and are reasonably intelligent people.

Finally, not all Chinese people are smart, but the education system in China is much more effective at teaching vital skills to aspiring students. Comparing an average secondary school student in the United States and an average Student from an Urban Area in China is like comparing Harvard to Community College.

this thread is futile. Does it matter if asians are better than indians vice versa? Who cares? Standardized tests aren't everything. So stop your obsession with who is better on tests. Also you know if you start generalizing you know that it is quite biased because it is only based on your experience.

[bold] Conclusion You can not compare those two groups here, and it doesn't matter.[/bold]

those are the real smart people. U see people in side the Stuyvesant hs building, they are stupid people. Doing drugs is the way to life.
