I'm looking to graduate HS after my junior year, and might not be able to go straight to a four year university for a number of complicated reasons. In lieu of community college, I was figuring on some type of gap year program, but I don't have the finances for the really expensive ones (and most seem like they are). Does anybody know of any cheap programs out there? Or anything else I could do in that year besides CC?

Bump anyone?

Look into NSLI-Y. I’m currently spending a fully funded 10 months in Taiwan and I know they offer other programs for the summer and semester. Languages include Hindi, Korean, Persian, Turkish, and a whole bunch more. Plus I don’t think the year long programs are extremely competitive. This is their site [NSLI for Youth](http://www.nsliforyouth.org/nslicms-1.1/content/apply-now).

What are your interests?

Anything not math/sciences based, although I would be open to environmental or ecology type stuff. Ideally, a language program abroad would pop up somewhere (such as the post a few above this). I don’t care if it’s volunteer work or whatever, I’m keeping my options open.

Any ideas? All are appreciated.

Does anyone have any ideas?

What about an AFS-type program for language study?

I looked into ASF, and it’s just way too expensive. I would prefer a language abroad program, but they all cost so much money! And we wouldn’t qualify for scholarships, and I live in a very rural area so fundraising opportunities are limited.

I’m liking the looks of the NSLI-Y program mentioned above, does anyone know of any similar programs?

Anybody? Any ideas are welcome.

Bump 10characters.

There’s also YES-Abroad and CBYX which offer scholarships similar to the NSLI-Y program.
