So I am currently waiting on TASP decisions. Both of my previous backup programs were canceled for financial reasons, so now I am left in the middle of April with nothing pending besides TASP. I really want to get out of the house and experience residential life and academics this summer, but all of the free/extremely cheap programs I have looked have had their deadlines expired. There are a lot of college-specific ones out there, but I have heard that a lot of them are crap. Is the Harvard one good? Anyway if you know of any programs that meet these criteria below could you let me know lol.

1)Real academics, if not actual college courses then seminars/projects that are the same caliber
2)Residential
3)Not scams (relates to number one)
4)Still open for admissions

And this is the big one...

5)Possible to attend for <$1500 due to financial aid or general price.

Thanks to anyone who cares to respond. I'll keep searching on my own regardless.

Nearly all the financial aid funds are probably depleted by now. I checked a few websites for you, and Summer@Brown’s financial aid ran out in March. The financial aid at Harvard does not cover room and board. For less than $1500, you can look at STARTALK programs at BYU, which were around $400 last year. The funding is not approved yet for this year, though, but last year they had financial aid in addition to their already low tuition. They offer Arabic and Chinese. Another foreign language program is MMLA and they are expecting additional FA funds soon.

Did you look at governors schools?

Colleges don’t really care about expensive summer programs. It would look better if you get a job, take courses at a community college, and volunteer. Look at universities in your area to see if they offer programs specifically for high school kids so you don’t have to pay the room and board costs like you would at other college programs.

This is my first year not doing a summer program, but I feel like all of us can be more productive at home. Take an SAT prep class or something.

Yea I did look at governor’s school…that was cancelled due to funding cuts in PA. Thats probably a good option, getting a job/research etc., I’ll probably end up doing that if FA is as low as you say. Or I could get into TASP and not have to worry about any of this :). Thanks ca87.
