<p>My daughter is very interested in St Lawrence, and will likely be applying soon. I am disappointed however that the staff directory links on their website do not include biographical information (i.e. EDUCATION) of professors. I think this is very important information to have and seems standard for most college websites. Personally, I like to know where the professors received their degrees. We know that a degree from a "good" school does not necessarily equate to "good" teaching, but it is one important piece of information as we try to evaluate the department/s that my daughter is interested in. We have had to conduct web searches to find this information, and in some cases can find nothing. Those we have been able to find have impressive credentials. It would be very helpful if this information were simply included on the staff pages.</p>

<p>ijust…Thank you! I think they should present this info on the department faculty pages… but I am glad to see that the information is available on the website (just not as convenient a form as it might be IMO). I am usually very good at “digging”…must be getting tired!</p>
<p>Knew where to look. D graduated from SLU last year so became accustomed to finding needed info.</p>
<p>My S is at SLU now, and while the website may not be perfect, he has excellent relationships with 2 professors thanks to the first year program, and he has always been able to get support and guidance from all the offices. I didn’t like the thought of a small school at first, but he has blossomed there and I think it’s due in large part to a thriving population that is smart, unique and all-around supportive. </p>
<p>Merit aid is generous if you have an outstanding skill, academics, or something unique that helps your s or d stand out.</p>
<p>My son is a sophomore at SLU and not an easy-to-please kind of guy! He has liked most of his professors and even loved some of them! All of his classes have been small and he has gotten to know all of his profs. They really take an interest in the individual students. My son attended a boarding/prep school and he is finding the same type of open-door policy and engagement with professors that he enjoyed there.</p>
<p>@keylyme… I remember you on some of the thread a few years ago… I guess I didn’t realize that your son decided on and is attending SLU. I remember our sons as being very similar. My S will start at SLU in August. He got in last year but decided on a gap year. He has had an amazing year, but can’t wait to get to SLU!! Glad your S is having a great experience. If there is any words of wisdom you can share I am all ears:)</p>
<p>How does the cold affect the kids ? It is darn cold up there. Do they find enough to do. Do they hit Montreal or Ottawa ? So many good LAC schools are in cornfields… but I wonder. Is everyone a jock at ST Law ? Seems that so many go ED and most of those must be athletes that are recruited ??? Thanks.</p>
<p>Hello Skyhawk, there are many athletes at SLU but there are very many non-athletes as well. SLU is in the middle of nowhere, but my son loves the music groups that SLU recruits to come play at their on-campus music venue and he seems to be busy with something fun on many weekends. There are tons of groups at SLU that lure people of common interest. My son went to SLU thinking he would be doing a lot of hikes on the weekends because that’s what he did in high school, but he was more drawn to music once he got to SLU and joined a few music groups, plus he spends time at the gym or climbing wall, which he also didn’t do in high school. (He is in second year.)</p>
<p>So, if you are looking for a school with a big club scene, you won’t find that at SLU, but you will find great kids diving into music, sports, outdoors, travel abroad, horses and green living, and many other things I didn’t list that bring them together for socializing.</p>
<p>Hi Skyhawk… my DS is a freshman this year, 3000 miles away from his home in always sunny San Diego, CA, and he absolutely LOVES SLU. So far it hasn’t been too cold, but the campus should be a bit colder/snowier when he returns today from Thanksgiving break. One of the things that he really likes about SLU is that there is always something going on and says he is almost too busy… he loves the music scene, the outdoor clubs activities on weekends, poetry slams, and has a new passion called Hockey:) He has been to Ottawa a couple of times and hopes to get to Montreal soon. He says there are athletes, and he hated the “bro” types in HS, but like Snowflake mentioned, there are tons of “types” of students and my S has definitely found his group of friends. The academics are not for the weak… it is challenging, but my S still has time to enjoy all the North Country has to offer. Gorgeous campus, great dining options, lively, busy and happy kids. I can not recommend SLU enough.</p>

<p>She is a smart girl… could not have made a better decision. It is an incredibly wonderful school. My S could not be happier.</p>
Ok, we moved her in and so far she is still in loves with the school suggesting that the student body is friendly, accepting and busy. She loves the food. She got a single – had not requested one and I think that will work out as 40% of the dorm is single and they live with their First Year Program kids anyway. Loves the dining hall, has hit Java Barn and downtown Canton.
