Info on University Of Maryland, New Haven, JCU

Thanks to you guys, my college list has been getting smaller and smaller and therefore ill be able to visit most of the colleges on my list come this fall.

The following colleges are colleges im still debating about:

University Of New Haven (has a good music biz major that im looking for but this school is in CT and im not a big fan of the area).

University Of Maryland (excellent Communications/Journalism program but its out of state fee is pretty high..same with any other public out of state college I guess).

CCNY (Cuny) (commuter school but offers a very good music biz/audio engineering program from what I hear. Low acceptance rate though).

New Jersey City University (as a safety? Its in the area.)

UMCP all the way...It's stupid to make ur decision on the application fee...college is an investment...well w/e

Oh I wasn't referring to the application fee, but the tuition for out of staters.

Don't you pay in-state after 1 year?

You do? I didn't know that.

Have you been into CT? Maybe if you visit again it'll help. If you don't like it, no problem. If you do, you have another college!

I'm looking into UNH too. But it's a tad on the small side.

UMCP ...don't cross it out because of fees. Financial aid can help.

I had no idea UNH was small. I was assuming it was this big school.

a little over 2000 kids.

You're better off with UHart if you want a CT college with an adequate amount of students.

Actually, im narrowing my list even more. Thanks for that tid bit. You just made me realize something.

What is that, exactly? I'm curious haha.

Well, besides the fact that I don't like the area, its a pretty small student body and the price is kind too high. Too many things going against it for me, I don't know why I still had it on my list. ;)

I don't see what exactly is wrong with the area, could you explain that to me before I trek up there?

UNH would offer a buttload of aid on top of that anyway. It's almost like in-state tuition.

What have you gotten you list down to?

if youre deciding between new haven and maryland, its no contest: maryland is a much better school in all aspects.

UMCP is a good choice, UMCP is an excellent school and it's one of those college s that I think is really underrated. CP has a good honors college and is really strong in computer sciences and biology. If you're interested in research, there is an invitation-only program called Gemstone that offers great research opportunities for undergrads.

Connecticut feels so isolated to me sweetsaz79. Feels so lost. I feel out of place when I go there. Im just not a fan of the area. Theres like nothing to look foward to there as apose to Boston, Philly or NY. But thats just me. A lot of them aint too cool with NJ folks either.

Calloftheblade, I have yet to take the SATs, but wit a GPA of about 3.4 and me being out of state, would UMCP be a reach or a match?

Santo I would say CP is a match for you as long as you keep your grades steady and score at least 1900 on the sat

Did you do any practice tests? Known in what range your real SAT scores will fall will help others and I find out whether it's a match or not.

Again, what's your list? I know you had quite a few (like I).

I have not taken any practice tests sweetsaz. And I take the SATs in October. And Ive been studyin out of the country, in SPANISH, for the past 2 years, so I really need all the help and practice I can get. Im american and english my native language but for 2 years I was following a different curriculum than that used in the U.S. Any online sites that can serve as practice for me?

**My current list:

Matches -
University Of Maryland
Five Towns
Rutgers
Temple

Reaches -
Emerson (Berklee)
Northeastern

Safeties -
William Paterson University Of NJ
New Jersey City University**

I might take out Northeastern a being that its too much of a reach for me. And when you compare it to the rest of the schools in terms of price, its too much.

Im still in looking over CCNY and some NJ colleges (Ramapo, Kean, Rider, Seton).

Still a looong list but believe me, its a lot smaller than what I originally had. I can use all the help I can get narrowing it even more so that ill have more time and less colleges to visit this fall.

Collegeboard has a great REAL SAT you can practice with.

If you don't like NU as a reach, then replace it with Ramapo.

Kean is a good safety. Elizabeth, my hometown, is like right there. I could probably walk there in 20 minutes. It's alright looks-wise. The sports may bring you in. I hear they have a nice football team.

Five Towns? Whuzzat?

Your list isn't long. You just need to get one more solid reach and one more solid safety and then you'll be ready to visit. So if you hate a couple, then you'll still have leeway.
