So, I have an "informal" interview tomorrow for the top scholarship given at this particular public university (University of Kentucky). The mail I received states the interview will be a thirty minute informal meeting with 3 faculty/administrators and that I should dress comfortably. Does this mean I should wear something like jeans and a sweater? It just seems atypical to have an informal meeting as an interview for the top scholarship. Also, do questions for scholarship interviews differ greatly from those asked during admissions interviews?

If it’s that big of a deal, I wouldn’t go in just jeans. Khakis or some other nice pants might be better. Personally, I would rather be overdressed than underdressed. The questions will probably be similar to an admissions interview–talking about yourself, your accomplishments, challenges you’ve overcome, etc. However, if this scholarship is (totally making this up) in honor of Dr. John Bob Smith who was a great researcher and is a research scholarship, then you should be prepared to talk about why would want the scholarship and how you will represent the legacy of Dr. Smith. I guess what I’m trying to say is if the scholarship has some special focus, be prepared to talk about that. Good luck. =)
