Informing the FA Office of Outside Scholarships

I've been reviewing my financial aid award from NYU for the past few minutes, and I noticed that I "must notify the Office of financial aid if * expect to receive aid that is not listed above...[including] outside scholarships".

I haven't received a great deal of this outside scholarships, but I did win one of the $2500 National Merit scholarships and I've applied for a number of local scholarships through my school district. Of those, some are simply a cash award but a few are awarded through direct payment to the university.

Does anyone know if informing NYU about smallish awards like this (with the NMSC scholarship definitely being the largest one) will affect my NYU award much? I was given $20,000 in the form of a "Stern Scholarship" and was offered $4000 in work study and about $32,500 in combined Stafford and PLUS loans. I'm not so worried about loan eligibility, but the merit money is pretty important to me, especially if it's renewable.
