Initial decision?

I applied to Michigan State University about 3 weeks ago and I had this really generic message for that time but then they added this paragraph to the message:

Thank you for your patience and continued interest in Michigan State University. An initial review of your application indicates you are a competitive applicant to MSU. Due to an increase in the quantity and quality of freshman applications, the Office of Admissions requires additional time to thoroughly review all applicants before making a final decision.

What does this mean? Does this mean that they are going to go through every applicant and then consider me, or is it simply just a message to confirm that they are currently considering me?

Sounds like they won’t give you an admissions decision until they see what the the applicant pool looks like. If you have any questions, call admissions and ask when you can expect an admissions decision.

Thanks for the response! Within like 24 hours of this update they said I was accepted which was a surprise considering how they worded my initial decision.

Congratulations!
