Does anyone here know how much BC weighs the essay for undergraduate admission? Cheers.

i'm guessing quite a bit because it's their way of differentiating applicants who have the same grades/scores.. when our regional rep visited our school last spring, he really stressed the importance of the essay

my grades are slightly below bc standards, but not too far off...will a great essay level the playing field?

i really think that BC is one of those schools that looks at the whole person, not just stats. so to answer your question, i think it's possible.

I think the essay is huge at BC. While I know college admissions are quirky, we have a strange thing going on in our family. S has great stats (4.3 W 34 on ACT) excellent letters, varsity sports, peer resource, community service, awards, catholic blah, blah blah. He got in to Notre Dame early admit (and every other school so far including UCs)but deferred at BC....His essay was excellent-but a little risky. If you go through the deferred stats online here, you won't find anyone even close to him deferred. It had to be the essay. While he hasn't been rejected, and I don't think he'd change the essay one bit, BC clearly reads and weighs them heavily.
