Institutional Grants

So I recieved my first aid package today and im really dissapointed. The package is from Rutgers (Im OOS)....my EFC is around 2k and all they gave me was 2k pell grants, some loans and a work study. Arent they suppose to include insitutional grants in there? or is there a seperate application for those?

I really hope its only Rutgers that are cheap bastards like that. Or am I up for dissapointment?

Rutgers is a New Jersey public institution. You are an out of state student. I don't know the policy at Rutgers, but many public universities give their larger awards to the residents of their states. ALSO...most public universities have very limited institutional monies unless they have large endowments.

Perhaps someone more familiar with the Rutgers policies can post here regarding financial aid expections for out of state students.

I don't think there's a separate app for institutional grants from Rutgers. Here's my package, I'm instate.
Bloustein scholarship - $930
Federal Pell Grant - $4310
NJ Aid Grant - $7922
Federal/Institutional Grant - $2400
Perkins loan - $2000
Work study - $2000
Stafford loan - $3500

To the above poster, what is the "NJ aid grant". Do you have to repay that? How was it offered to you?

I'm also from NJ and applied to Rutgers. My EFC is Zero so i'm hoping to get something.

Corduroy...are you instate from NJ? If so, does this NJ Aid Grant apply to instate residents only (I would think so)? This would be good for the OP to know.

Ahh well I guess I was expecting too much from Rutgers. I know Ohio State has a large endowment and they already gave me a 7k/year scholarship...so hopefully they can come through for me.

Undead, it's the "NJ Tuition Aid Grant" which they said was an ESTIMATE and "The New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) establishes your eligibility and determines the amount of your award. HESAA will notify you directly concering your Tuition Aid Grant."
My EFC is 0 too.

Thumper, I said I am instate.

Sorry Corduroy...I missed your instate line!!

Viper...are you in or out of state for Ohio State?

There's nothing to be sorry for. XD And I don't know the answer to your other question but I would assume it's for NJ residents only. And I don't think you have to repay grants.

Thumper, I am OOS for OSU
