disappointed with my financial aid award

ONLY 5000 (FALL/SUMMER) from michigan grant. i have a brother who'll be attending college and my EFC is 15000.
is the grant normal for my EFC or is it too ;pw?

is it possible my grant goes up if i explain some more unusual circumstances on my family's financial situation?

I'm OOS by the way.
thanks.

I'm OOS with a 16000 EFC and I only got like 3,000 from a Michigan Grant for Fall/Spring -_-. About the same amount for a federal loan and work-study.

wow consider yourselves lucky. my efc is lower and i did not receive any grants other than the MEAP scholarship. And I have to pay for my schooling in its entirety

Also VERY dissapointed - I just got $3500 as some sort of loan - don't even know what that means. Ah well. Maybe I've become spoiled after receiving a $25,000 scholarship from Brandeis.

what if there will be a very significant change in my parent's financial situation next year? (ex. whole cash saving being lost, income cut by half)

is grant based more on merit or need?

efc approximately 8000...got $6000 per semester in grants w/ about 10,000 in work study and loans. Yeah i sure am going to be able to afford that.

how do they expect anyone from out of state to attend if they give such terrible aid.

I think they expect only full freight rich people and people with merit money to attend from OOS

Yep, basically. There's virtually no "poor" out-of-staters here.

efc approximately 8000...got $6000 per semester in grants w/ about 10,000 in work study and loans. Yeah i sure am going to be able to afford that.

im guessing this is rhetorical. and what are you complaining about? you are paying 8000 per year just like your EFC said? where you expecting any big bonuses or something? this is quite generous

no he's not...total cost is 40k..40k - 16k = 24k..that's 16 k more than what his EFC sugested

I am disappointed as well. My EFC is 16000, but they gave me only $3000 in grant.

im just curious when you guys were accepted? so I know when to expect my financial aid =] thanks!

I was accepted in December, got my aid info right when it was released...except it's gone down by about $500 since then.
