Yesterday my son received his nstructions for Candidates Offered Admission Class of 2011. The packet contained:

Poice Record Check

Travel Package Offer from Carlson Wagonlit Travel

Direct Deposit Sign-Up Form

Immunization Record Form Instructions

Birth Certificate Information Card

Statement of Consent Card

Certificate of Authorization Card

Request for Final Transcript Card

Appointment (Offer of Admission) Declination Card

Vision Survey Card

USMA Admissions Checklist

Besides all of this paperwork, you may want to consider applying for a passport before R-Day. It will be nice to have in case there is any travel to another country at some point during their cadet years.

Funny that you should mention passports; my dad suggested that the whole family apply for one before I ship out. I guess it would help if I got stationed in Germany or Italy. My mom loves to travel :)

It's not about where you'll be stationed 5 years from now. It's about having a tournament, game or meet in another country. Or you may be invited to visit one of your classmates who is from another country. You may participate in an AIAD in another country. These are just a few possibilities.

Even though you'll be able to obtain a passport while at West Point, you'll have so little time and I think it's just easier to do before you leave for R-Day. It's not a requirement, but will be nice to avoid the hassle later.

Haha. I received one of those several weeks ago. My father and I went through it together, and I have to say, I really like how organized everything is. But some of it was pretty hilarious, especially in the requirements for women. I'll have to act serious about it when I get there, though.

good luck to all of you going in july of this year! Maybe I'll see you there!

Requirements for women? What was special about them?

Also - Keep track of your expenses getting to West Point. You're conisdered on official travel orders, and they will pay you back for mileage, tolls, airplane tickets, and the like. Keep your receipts.

hi bzzt! "Requirements" was the wrong word, I meant like how micromanaged all of the small things were - bras, haircuts, etc. I'm fine with all of it - I just found it particularly humorous because I'm not used to that sort of thing. Anyway, thanks for your advice on travel. Maybe we'll meet at West Point . . . and you'll yell at me for being a klutz or something.

Please, let's not meet at West Point. I got married on the sixth of june, but 27 May will always be one of the happiest days of my life --- GRADUATION! I'm a 2LT now, about to head off for my first assignment :)

Read the Minority Report thread for some good girl tips!

:) Congratulations on everything, and good luck in Korea! momoftwins is right, be safe.

Also, I'm definitely looking into the minority report for girls section you put together. It looks like it will help with a lot of my questions and worries. Thanks so much!

I'll never forget you guys. Even as my information grows stale and outdated (I still think I've probably had a few of you in my information sessions at the admissions office) I still like hearing the stories and listening to the journey as each generation of cadets prepares to report to the Cadet in the Red Sash. I promise I'll keep checking in.
