if u participate in intel, is that a gauranteed admission?

Nothing is ever guaranteed.
EDIT: oh, except death and taxes

how far will a semifinalist take u to geti nto cornell?

Enough a lot of times, but not all the time.

what about westinghouse?

My school does not do the International science and engineering fair anymore, but my science teacher did have a student become a grand prize winner in 1986 (which i mentioned on my application) and wrote an amazing letter of reccomendation for me. Since i have had her for 4 years of high school science and also one in jr high (I attend a REALLY rural public school), will Cornell see that as a good sign?

bumpbumpbump

so your saying a semifinalist status gets you in to the top top schools? Wow

There's no guarantee of anything. I know an Intel semifinalist with 1600 SATS (last year) who did't get into Harvard or Yale. However, she's doing great at Stanford.

what about a person with a 32 act whose an intel semi and strong courseload and ecs?

Sounds good to me, but often admissions makes no sense. If intel research is what you're interested in & you have good recs, gpa & essay you should do fine. Knowing the semifinalist I mentioned in my previous post kept me grounded. My thoughts were that if she didn't get in, nothing was guaranteed.

hmmm...i'm an intel finalist (India thou)
did a project on Solar Hybrid cells in Grade 11
and Insect Flight simulation in grade10...
