Intellectual atmosphere?

I’m looking for schools similar to Brown in their academic but laid-back atmospheres, etc. Is BU liberal? Most importantly, are there diverse types of people there, and is it an intellectual atmosphere??

Being in Boston, it’s definitely liberal, especially on the social front.

As for intellectualism, it’s more of a subdued thing at BU. With so many students, you have a mixed bag of personalities. Some BU students definitely aren’t as big on having intelligent conversations left and right. On the other hand, I have plenty of friends who love delving into intellectual discussions as much as possible. With so many extracurricular opportunities on-campus, it’d be easy for you to seek out peers with similar interests though. Most of my friends are very passionate and vocal about one area or another.

Regarding diversity, I’ve made so many friends from completely different backgrounds at BU. It’s really cool. I never thought too much about diversity when deciding where to attend college. Looking back, the diversity at BU has added a ton to my experience here. I love learning about my friends’ cultures, religions, etc. I’ve got to try new foods that they’ve made and attended different holiday celebrations that I hadn’t been exposed to during high school.
