I'm applying to SUNY Stony Brook's Honors College as a safety, and their application tells me to describe an intellectual experience. Does anyone have any idea what an intellectual experience would be (what qualifies as an intellectual experience).

Some would say that for a high school student to have had an intellectual experience is an oxymoron. An example:

It is Friday night and you are with one of your buddies discussing the usual:

"What are we going to do tonight?"

"Heck if I know, you got any ideas?

"Let's go find some girls?"

"We tried that last week to no success?"

"Yeah, but maybe we will get lucky this week."

"You said that last week."

"So what are we going to do, play video games?"

"Our luck with women is usually better there."

"Look, why don't we go to the dance."

"I can't dance and neither can you."

"But we can stand around and stare can't we."

"All the guys except the popular ones stand around and stare. And we never talk to any girls."

"Well, I got to find a girl somewhere on this earth."

"I'd just like to find one anywhere in the universe."

"That's it, you are on to something, we'll search the universe. The odds are in our favor."

"Yeah, I heard the universe is a pretty big thing. I mean look up at the stars and they tell me there are billions of those and it just stretches further than the mind can conceive."

"Infinity it is, infinity."

"Yeah, and scientists claim that the odds favor that there are likely millions of planets that can support intelligent life."

"You think more intelligent than us?"

"Way more."

"Well, what does that make us?"

"Just ants. In the concept of the universe, we are nothing but mindless ants of no importance."

"About as insignificant as we feel without girls."

"Something like that."

"So what are we going to do tonight?"

"Let's go find some girl ants."

You just had an intellectual experience.

Have you ever had a dicussion about politics, philosophy, religion, science, or law with anyone? If so, describe your conversation.
