lol there are like wiki/guides for reading each of pynchon's books, so maybe I'll look at those too

Are you looking at Gravity's Rainbow? It's impossible to get through that without it being annotated I think...

I spent two hours Friday reading Gravity's Rainbow in the kid's section at Barnes & Noble while quoting out unsurly passages in front of the kids there to my friend. Good times, but that's irrelevant. I believe there are actual books out there that are companion guides to Pynchon's works (and that are not Spark Notes), but I don't know the title names off hand. I just remember coming across them.

Also, I fail to see how Palin is inexperienced. She's been involved in government for the past 16 years (12 if you don't count city council). Plus, she's governing a state that's larger than a vast array of countries out there. Besides, she's the only one with actual executive experience. Casting a yea or nay for a bill is hardly leading, so I don't count McCain's or Obama's own experiences as that valuable to actually leading a country. In the end, I rather vote for a governor over a senator. But, hey, that's me. Each to their own.

Governing a state? It's mostly barren land! You might as well say she's governing moose!

governing moose is indeed a hard task.

oh china, no one understands your inside joke . . . yes i remember the phone calls . . .

naw not Gravity's Rainbow. I'll try that book some other time lol, maybe after reading everything else by him
I'm reading Against the Day, which is pretty new, but it's over 1,000 pages.. I really like it so far (not far), and it's very different from anything else I've read

palin is the scum of the earth... after AIDS

tba, are you an English major?

Starting with "The Crying of Lot 49" might be easier (as well as vastly shorter).

Muffin, why is Palin the scum of the earth? I am curious.

Three reasons the thought of Palin getting the vice presidency makes me a sad panda:

1) My uterus. I do not want the government deciding what I do with the contents of my uterus.

2) My science. I disagree with Palin's creationist views and that schools should teach creationism alongside evolution. Though I am glad that it's "alongside" and not "instead of" -___-

3) My books. There's a little scandal about her inquiring into the banning of books at the Wasilla library while she was mayor, then threatening to ban the librarian for not "giving 'full support' to the mayor."

lol pink nice wording of reason #1

I wanted to start with 49 or V, but neither the library nor borders had them :( I'm ok with just starting with his newest one

nop emm, physics !!
"different from anything else I've read" = I haven't really read that many books at all. but one of my friends helped me get into reading during the summer, and also mentioned pynchon, which made me want to read everything by him some day
senior year AP english came after 3 years of boring "normal" (honors/ap available for all years at my school) and after actually learning why poetry, classics, etc. are so appreciated, it made me wish I'd read more in the past

1) The "contents" of your uterus? That's all it would be to you? Most Americans would say here that Palin supports the government preventing you from taking human life, even if you had a hand in its creation. 48% of Americans in a May 2008 Gallup Poll say abortion (in general) is immoral, while 40% say it is fine morally. So you are in the minority here (your opinion is of course still welcome - I'm just saying).

2) So you're against presenting both sides and allowing students to figure out what they believe for themselves? Because when I sit in a biology class and hear talk of "evidence" for evolution, I sometimes have to suppress a laugh at how flawed, outdated, or shoddy this evidence in fact is. At best, I've heard wonderful evidence for a proven phenomenon, microevolution, which does not in any way conflict with creationism.

3) As vice-president (or even president) Palin could never take your books away, rest assured. I'm with you on opposing such censorship, btw. The whole librarian "scandal" is kinda murky and sketchy on the details. No books were in fact ordered removed from the library in question, it seems from every account I've read. If the rumors are totally true, though, if she couldn't get away with it in an Alaskan town near the "Alaskan Bible belt," she can't get away with it in the United States at large.

In conclusion, Palin is not that scary, so be a happy Panda! (Also, she'll probably lose anyway. Let's see!)

^
1) a percent of your poll may find abortion to be "immoral" but still believe that it is up to the pregnant person to decide whether or not to have an abortion.

terms like "immoral" and "moral" are so loose, I have a tough time believing that the poll is very accurate.

2) I had a tough time listening to the lessons on creationism at sunday school, pretty much the same reaction you had, but to the other side of the topic. It goes both ways. =)

3) I don't know if she's going to take our books away. But all this nonsense of her having the most "executive" experience is making me laugh. Do you think being a mayor or a Governor anywhere NEAR being the VP or (please McCain, I can't believe I'm saying this, but if you get elected, DO NOT DIE!) President? It's like saying if I was the head of student council at UCLA, I should become Mayor of Los Angeles.

Since she lives in Alaska, which is the closest state to Russia, she has foreign policy experience. I'm sorry, doesn't Russia just make a bee-line to the white house or the Russian Embassy? I didn't know that they stopped by Alaska to clear all of their foreign policy plans through the Governor of Alaska.

Wow pink, nicely put, I'm not into politics, but I don't like Palin now.

I'm with xleper on 1 and 2.

2 reminds me of this. YouTube - Peanut Butter, The Atheist's Nightmare!

Good stuff. =D Choosey moms choose jiff. **** you skippy. Actually I have a jar of Jiff at home right now and that **** has FULLY hydrogenated vegetable oil. 100% saturated baby. This is worse than abortion! Tastier too.

Dude, what are you doing up this early!?. Yeah the sole existence of that banana has to prove the existence of god. I mean just look it; its perfect haha. Oh the other hand, if the God didn't exist, it would look like a piece of ****.

Palin's value to those patriarchs is clear: She opposes just about every issue that women support by a majority or plurality. She believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but disbelieves global warming; she opposes gun control but supports government control of women's wombs; she opposes stem cell research but approves "abstinence-only" programs, which increase unwanted births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions; she tried to use taxpayers' millions for a state program to shoot wolves from the air but didn't spend enough money to fix a state school system with the lowest high-school graduation rate in the nation; she runs with a candidate who opposes the Fair Pay Act but supports $500 million in subsidies for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska; she supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, though even McCain has opted for the lesser evil of offshore drilling. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.

apathetic on this. Good arguments on both sides. But however, in certain cases(e.g rape), I would agree that abortion is fine.

The only reason certain groups want creationism in schools is because those groups are Christians. But if only Christians want this, the education would be superfluous. After all, Christians devout enough to advocate teaching creationism in schools would go to church; and surely church would teach them more than they would need to know about creationism.

And what about the non Christians in schools? Well, you have a mixture of other kids whose religions( including atheism) doesn't permit them to believe in Christian creationism. So that only leaves the agnostics with an open mind. So should we teach these agnostics at cost of oppression(b/c thats what it is if you belittle others religions in an institutionalized setting) of other religious groups?

i would like to say to all the idiots that think creationism should be taught in science classes: if you know anything about science, IT'S NOT SCIENCE. dumbbuttocks

this is what you sound like: "ooo evolution doesn't explain the origin of life (it's not meant to) so let's make up an indisprovable 'theory' to explain it!! nevermind the COMPLETE lack of evidence!"

no thanks if i want my kids to be brainwashed i'd send them to church
