apparently ur major doesn't affect your chances? to what extent is this true? say u want to be a doctor, but u got b's in biology and chemistry.

Then you will be hurt. Your major doesn’t matter; your grades in relevant courses (particularly biology, chemistry) do.

Is there any way to make up for those grades? (SAT II’s?)

Med schools don’t care about your SAT II’s. If you get amazing MCAT scores it will help but most people applying to top med schools have strong (36+) MCAT scores. You’d need exceptional extra-curriculars to balance out lots of B’s in biology and chemistry courses.

Are you talking about college admissions or med schools admissions? For getting into Hopkins for undergrad, your major choice doesn’t matter* but your background will likely be looked at in the context of your likely major. If you say you want to be a science major, they’ll likely take a closer look at your math and science course grades and science-related extracurriculars. A B is a science course is not going to kill your chances of getting in as a prospective science major.
