It's been drilled into my head that Yale has invested millions in the sciences recently, and wants to woo future science/engineering majors to its campus for undergrad research opportunities. Does that mean admissions will scrutinize an applicant's intended major indicated on the Yale supplement? I have interests in both MCB and linguistics, and am not sure whether I should strategize or just put in a random one of the two.

Also, I’m not a prospective pre-med, if that makes any difference.

The Yale Supplement will only allow you to select one intended major, so put down whatever interests you the most. Yes, I believe Yale reads applications seeking to identify students interested in science and engineering, but don’t put down MCB unless you are absolutely passionate about it. Remember, you will also have an interview, and this will be your opportunity to demonstrate your interests, and to ask questions about both majors.

I’ve done biology-related research and am genuinely interested in pursuing a science major along with linguistics. So I guess I’ll put down MCB.

What is MCB? Do you mean MCDB?

yeah, i mean MCDB, my bad.

I agree with the advice to put the one that actually interests you the most. You could game the issue endlessly. (For example, while Yale is interested in STEM majors, it may also be interested in Asian students who don’t want to be STEM majors.)

You’re right, Hunt, and I’m Indian-American (so I suppose there’s a million different ways that could play out). I’m genuinely into both subjects and plan on pursuing a double major if I’m accepted, so I don’t know what to pick haha.
