Intensity

Hi, so I absolutely love Davidson, and I’m very tempted to go. However, I’ve spent the last 4 years at a very competitive high school in Silicon Valley doing 8-13 hours of homework every night, crazy studying, daily quizzes and in class essays, etc. I’ve heard that Davidson’s academics are very, very tough. I definitely want to attend a good school, and I’m definitely not a partier, but I worry: Are Davidson’s academics TOO intense?

I’m definitely ready to work hard, but if this is one of those things where I’m going to be in my room every spare second and staying up until 3am every night to finish my work…I just don’t think I can. I’m just so tired.

Don’t worry–you will do fine there. Davidson students are conscientious about academics, but not crazy. Nowhere near the level of work that you described. Remember that college involves 15-18 hours of class a week. So there is a lot of time for extracurriculars, social activities, and studying. I’m guessing that you will be challenged, but won’t find it “very, very tough.”

As for partying, the eating houses are a fantastic feature of Davidson. You can have a social life without committing to a sorority. You don’t have to be a hard partier to be social there. Good luck with your decision.
