Hello,

I am currently a sophomore at UC Santa Cruz. I have applied for a physics transfer to the following schools: UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSB, and UCSD. I realize that it is harder to transfer from a UC to a UC, so I would like to get some opinions on my chances for transferring based on the following information.

Good things about my application:

3.93 GPA

UCSC General Education requirements will be completed prior to transfer.

"A" in calc 1 and calc 2

Taking a 23 unit course load this Fall quarter and should be getting A's in computer programming, physics, multivariable calc, and linear algebra.

Good personal statement ( I hope).

Bad things about my application:

Came into UCSC as a freshman undecided as to what to major in, and when I realized my passion for physics, it was too late as the physics series is only offered once per year. I had to wait until this Fall.

Most of my prerequisite classes will only be completed during the course of this year. Yes, all of them will be completed prior to transfer however. Also, they will get to see my Fall grades in which I will have 4 very important major classes as listed above.

Worst part: Took physics at Berkeley over the summer; got a pathetic "C".
However, I did explain my circumstances in the 3rd part of the personal statement, and am retaking the course here in Santa Cruz this fall. I realize they don't really count it in my GPA ( since I had above a "D" grade) , but I hope when they notice the "A+" they will realize I am at least competent in the major I am applying for.

Thanks for any well founded opinions on my chances!
