I am an upcoming freshman going to UCSB currently majoring in psychology (changing to MS so I cant get CS classes), but aspiring to transfer to Computer Science. It is extremely, EXTREMELY, difficult to change my major to CS this year because they’re only taking top 20 students per year. I was thinking of transferring to a different UC school if I was unable to change my major. I understand that there are requirements I need to meet to transfer to a different UC, however I also need to work on the requirements to change my major. I’m not sure what I should do… Would it be hard for me to transfer to a different UC school, but also get into their CS program even though I’m not currently a CS major. Would it still be difficult for me because CC students get priority? I’m obviously going to focus on trying to change my major at UCSB, but how would I go about preparing for a transfer as well? Would it be better for me to just not try to change my major and focus solely on transferring? Would it be easier if I spent 1 year at SB and then go to CC for another year and transfer? Should I go to a state school?? I just want to do computer science at a decent school HAALP!!! :(((
Here are the stats for CS at UCLA: https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_mjr.htm#SEAS
It is EXTREMELY competitive.
Whatever path you decide, you need to make sure you don’t hit the unit max (so if possible, try to avoid upper division classes at UCSB)
