I know tons- I both work for the Humanities Department and am scholar. The website is Kaplan Humanities Scholars Program . If you have any questions specifically about it, post them up. The second course is changing for next year, but the first is staying the same. The teachers of the first course (Brave New Worlds) are AMAZING, and the class is incredibly interesting too.

Majors, Office of Undergraduate Admission - Northwestern University is a good place to start.

You can get to arbiter213's link above by choosing "Minor/Certificates" --> Humanities (which takes you to Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities) --> Undergraduates --> Interdisciplinary humanities courses; you will then see KAPLAN HUMANITIES SCHOLARS PROGRAM classes

One thing they dont tell you on the site: You get cool shirts, and pampered with special catered dinners, pizza parties for screening movies, and the fact that you get field trips shouldn't be understated. You're treated really, really well in the class. And the professors are so nice. On the last day of Brave New Worlds (when we were discussing Brave New World) they brought in jars labeled "Soma"- candy balls of deliciousness. If you've read the book, you get why its funny.

thanks! that pretty much solidified my decision to place it as my number one spot.

one more question: did it take up too much time? as in, did you feel you missed out on other classes or got bored of having the hum. classes mon-thurs?

Not during first quarter. The second class this year was not quite as good, however I've met the professors for next year's class, and it shouuld be exceptional. It takes up a lot of your time (it should, it's half your classes) but thats half the fun. I relally encourage you to apply. If you get in you'll probably meet me at some point next year :)

hello. i just got an invitation for this program. it says that there are only 48 people in it, so i’m guessing it’s supercompetitive? and since i got the invitation, does that mean i’m invited to apply or that i’ve been accepted and they’re inviting me to do it?

also, are the classes harder than the other humanities classes? is it harder/easier to receive an A in these classes?

They classes are double classes, so they’re a lot of reading. I found them easy, many other people found them very hard. The classes will be totally different this year- the fall one is going to be amazing, the winter one… hopefully will be good.

As for slectivity- everyone is invited to be one. It’s usually about 1/3 get in, I think. But “usually” is over 2 years, so…

This is not a program, but Northwestern offers many interdisciplinary majors (and adjunct majors). It’s very doable to pursue a double major (I did one when I graduated). Look at the majors that end with “studies.” Some majors require admission during freshman year.

Just look at the list of majors here: [Majors, Office of Undergraduate Admission - Northwestern University](http://www.ugadm.northwestern.edu/majors/)
