Interdisciplinary Studies...at UCLA?

I read in another thread that Berkeley offers an Interdisciplinary Studies Major. That is, you choose up to three areas that you would like to study and combine them to create your own major. This is exactly what I would like to do! Does anyone know if this is a possibility at UCLA? I'd love to go to Berkeley, but I got the Regents at UCLA, so.....

I'm interested in doing that too but isn't that known as a triple major?

I don't believe they have that UCLA otherwise I would have gone after that as well. I think the closest that comes to that is a double major, double minor scenario. However, I do know that at UCSB they do have exactly that, just as a for instance......

Hey, I applaud your efforts for wanting something a little more rounded. In fact, I went to a Liberal Arts College for some time and they more than encouraged that type of independent work.....anywho, what I've discovered is that the requirements for my major are not that extensive so it would allow me to learn other things......maybe not do the "triple major" course, because that's so unnecessary actually, but at least do a double major and yet dabble in some other disciplines for fun.

However, I'd rather just get my major and get the heck out. Two years will go by soooo quickly. Oh well, as much I love school and trust me....no one has been in school longer than I have, I am definitely ready to pursue a career full-time..... :)

Yeah, I would love to concentrate on psychology-sociology-english, but as it stands I'm a communcations studies major. I'm not ecstatic about my major choice, but I think it's a good stepping stone to many grad schools of various disciplines, and many careers should I choose to end my studies after getting a B.A. I don't know about doing a minor, I would rather take it easy, get good grades, and then go on to grad school. A minor does mean at least one or two extra quarters...

Oh, I see. UCSB has an English program that allows you to sample from Psych, Sociology and History just to name a few. If I was staying home here in Santa Barbara, I would have done that. Oh well....as long as one has the time....they can take whichever courses look good to them, within reason of course.....

What majors overlap with POlitical science at ucla I'm interested in double majoring in either history, english, or asian american studies

Hey Mexbruin, I don't know much about political science but I think that history would be a good double major choice. You could learn about all the mistakes humans have made in the past and be sure that they don't happen in today's political world!

thanks again charlie.

Yes, I hope to double in history because for 1) I've already taken quite a few history courses that will transfer, and 2) it seems like a very broad major that one could explore so many different areas of interest....

I'd definitely go with History, Mex. :)
