Don't get me wrong, I have these interests and such already, but I just don't know which ones to express and show on my application.

I know for sure my favorite extracurriculars are diabolo, tennis, and break dance, respectively. My academic interests involve biology, chemistry (possibly as engineering), and Chinese, also respectively.

What should I focus on more when writing my essays, getting recommendations, and just downright doing my app? Extracurricular passions or academic interests? I have a feeling that the latter is more important, but I have done more with my extracurriculars.

You use "respectively" to associate a list of things with another list of things, when the first corresponds to the first, second to the second, etc. There was no comparison taking place.

I agree that "respectively" was incorrectly used; I believe that the original poster meant "in that order" or something like that.

I would focus more on extracurriculars if you're more passionate about those; I believe that passion will come through in your essay and it will also make your essay more memorable.

I love how the respectivelys were more talked about than the OP's question.

For an essay, focus on your favs. For the app part where it asks about EC's, put all of the ones you participated in, unless it's something you really never did/cared about.

Yeah, to stop being an ass, I agree with the above, but try to find a way to talk about both if you can.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is Diabolo anyways?

haha sorry if my choice of words is causing controversy. :p What I meant was my interests in descending order.

Sounds like a game plan. :) I'm just a bit skeptical because I don't have much on my application that shows my academic interests. (I'm undecided for the most part, but more sciencey than fuzzy.)

[Edit]
Diabolo is like the Chinese yo-yo but made of rubber and you don't bleed if you smack yourself in the face with it.
