I don’t see how you don’t agree that communication between the applicant and school is important. When your potential future school offers you extra programs and shows interest in you, then it signals that the school cares more about its students and that you would have a better experience at that school. Why do you think coaches are in constant communication with their athletic recruits, even after they’ve committed verbally??

I’m just saying that it appears UCSD isn’t really doing much in comparison to other UC schools, which is definitely lowering my interest in the school. I mean, you’d think that they’d try to do more when they know that they have to compete with Berkeley and UCLA.

UCSD admits by a points formula that is not shared by UCLA or Berkeley. Just because you are a top candidate at the other schools does not mean you stand out as dramatically at UCSD. I’m not saying either system is better, just that they yield different results because they weight the factors differently.

^Honestly, I’m pretty sure that using a point system would HELP me, not hurt me. Great, now more people have gotten those acceptance phone calls and not me :(

Dude how the school pampers you with emails and pamphlets really doesn’t indicate much more than a budget. Consider that UCSD is a great research school and funnels its funding into more important avenues… and for the more fun things, how else are we to pay for Sun God if we send pamphlets etc hahaha?

What are you majoring in?

If you’re even considering majoring in Bio-anything, this school tops UCLA and Berkeley hands down. For other majors compare ALL schools you’re admitted to.

Why are you even worried? Who cares if they call. Its not as if in the phone calls they’re saying “Congrats. You’re accepted to ______ college here at UCSD. Now we’re begging you… PLEASE COME HERE.” They just say. “You’re accepted. Congrats. Do you have any questions? No? K… bye.”

Stop worrying about how much they’ve contacted you. At the end of the day, hardly anyone has gotten any mail or anything from them and very few have gotten calls as well. You are just another student in a MASSIVE applicant pool who is just waiting to hear from them for the first time.

About this school becoming your last choice because they havent contacted you therefore they dont care… all I have to say is that no school cares about you unless you’re attending a private school as the child of someone filthy rich who would donate millions to the school. Plain and simple as that.

You need to stop worrying about who has contacted you and wait to see where you get in… go visit the campus… do a little research… and then decide.

UCSD already wasted time reading ur essay, just cuz they dont communicate with you doesnt mean they dont care. This kind of attitude is why selfish people don’t deserve things

@Schw1ng, I totally agree with you. Anybody who puts UCSD into “last choice” just b/c of initial lack of pampering is totally selfish/immature etc etc. Maybe that’s why sd doesn’t want to attract those kinds of applicants. Smart move sd.

ehh, i guess they didn’t hate me THAT much because UCSD ended up giving me the regents scholarship. but then again, UCLA did too… maybe being selfish/immature is the secret???

^Probably not. I had a feeling they still could have contacted you. Every UC doesn’t notify people at the same time, I guess that’s obvious now. Here’s my recommendation now that you know UCSD doesn’t hate you. All three of your mentioned schools are great and you’ll be successful at any of them. Make sure you visit all 3 if you haven’t and pick the one you really see yourself at.

Unless you’re going to be in contact with the people who are calling you the next four years, it doesn’t matter. There is no correlation between courtesy and a kickass college experience. Fit ftw.
