Interest in UCSD decreasing very very rapidly

UCSD is the only UC school that I haven't really heard anything from. I've interviewed with UC Berkeley already for the regents scholarship, and I applied for UCLA's regents after being invited as well. Both these things got me more interested in those schools, but UCSD hasn't contacted at all... Well they did send the medical scholars thing but I'm not interested in medicine.

I just thought that they should be trying harder to get top applicants when UC Berkeley and UCLA are already ahead of the game. I never got that acceptance phone call that people claimed to have gotten either :( Consequently, UCSD is dropping farther and farther off my college radar...

Maybe they don’t expect to get some of those students lol

They are too busy building a new African American resource center and meeting the 10% African American student quota demanded by the BSU.

^How do you know Handlebars isn’t black?

Statistics.

Think about the number of black applicants compared to white and Asian applicants. The chance of him being black is about 1/20. (I honestly don’t know the number of black applicants at UCSD, just proving my point).

If he happens to be black, cool, I am wrong. My point (read: JOKE) was that UCSD is “negotiating” with the BSU instead of loving on their top applicants.

hahah no worries, i’m asian. i don’t feel very loved by UCSD :[

I was pretty much kidding. I didn’t think it mattered either way.

I feel you Handlebars. After getting attention from Berkeley (Regents), the lack of hype from San Diego is weakening it a bit as a contender.

UCB and UCLA just have a lot more money than UCSD so they have more resources to do this kind of stuff. I think UCLA and UCB sent me more crap just for getting accepted than UCSD did after I submitted my SIR there.

Yeah, Berkeley and UCLA probably just have more money. But I don’t see why UCSD can’t send out a few emails from time to time or have some students call us (which is what UCLA did). Also, at least some of the other UC schools sent their decisions out already (like UCI). That would be nice too…

i get emails from jacobs school of engineering every couple of days, its usually the same message over and over

i havent gotten anything meaningful since MSP

and to the ones above about regents: did CAL and UCLA send out an email where you had to apply for regents? if so, ■■■, because i didnt. i assumed it was like UCSD where they automatically consider you…

nah, they automatically consider you for regents. they pick about the top 1-2% of applicants and tell them that they are regents candidates.

for UCLA they then tell you to fill out an application which includes two short essays and a letter of recommendation. most people who get chosen, get accepted to UCLA. then they choose a certain number of those applicants to receive the actual regents scholarship.

for berkeley, they email you saying that you’re a regents candidate and invite you to interview either in LA or berkeley. and that’s where they tell you that you got officially accepted to berkeley! based on your interviews/application, they pick a certain number of people to receive that actual regents scholarship as well.

which is why i’m so confused that i could get regents invitations from both UCLA and Berkeley, but absolutely nothing from UCSD. not even those fancy acceptance calls that people seem to be getting lately.

im assuming UCSD regents will come out with acceptances, maybe mid march? keep your fingers crossed =D

for me, ucsd is my first choice. i could take UCR regents or UCI CHP but i really really want ucsd.

i didnt go through with the MSP though - seemed like a long shot, and i dont want to go to med school, even though i want to do med research related stuff

well for me, UCSD was even with UCLA, but now because of the lack of communication from UCSD, it’s most definitely my last choice school, my ultimate safety that I would only go to if the 9 other universities I applied to burned down in simultaneous fires or something :)

The reason you probably heard from UCLA and Berkeley is because they send out Regents Scholar’s application invitations early so that there is time to review the applicants. UCSD does not have an application process for Regents scholarships so you’ll find out later. The acceptance calls are probably taking a while to make I’m assuming =/

You sound like a very needy person. I personally didn’t give a **** when it came to “communication by the schools”. I just waited for acceptances to roll in lol.

^^ yeah exactly, this thread is really confusing me

I based my decision off webpage loading times. That’s why I declined UCSB, you’d think they’d try to attract more students by at least having faster servers than UCSD, etc. who is already ahead of the game.

What difference does it make if the school contacts you. At the end of the day, if you get accepted, its clear that the school wants you to attend. Its not like they would accept you just for kicks and giggles

Go to UCLA or Berkeley. We don’t need any more complainers as we’ve got enough as it already is.
