Interested in 7 Yr. Dental @ Penn - High School Schedule?

Hi! I am almost certain that I would like to apply to Penn's accelerated 7 year BS/DMD program (Bio-Dental Consortial Program for High School Students).

I was wondering, what classes should I be taking that would impress Penn/make them interested in me? I plan on taking AP Chemistry next year, and AP Physics B and AP Biology during my senior year. Are there any other classes/activities/programs I should keep in mind that would make me attractive to the undergrad reps as well as dental school reps? Thanks! =)

This program is pretty small. I’m pretty sure that in some years there aren’t even any admits. I wouldn’t worry too much about your schedule, though - just take the best science classes available.

I think this program generally wants people who can prove, in both essays and in activities, that they are keen and set on dentistry - and have a real knack for it too. Not something like “I like the money and one day I realized I liked it” but something more real and tangible (i.e extensive shadowing, internships, volunteering on top of a strong science background).

Take high level science and math plus core honors in the humanities. Shadow many dentists in your area. Start with your personal dentist and ask for referrals into other offices, including specialists. Keep a log of the different offices and hours spent in each. Visit a dental lab, volunteer in a visiting dentist program if it’s available (we have a large mobile van that visits schools year round).

I don’t know anything about Penn’s program, but the same applies to getting into any dental school.
