Interested in my chances. Will chance back

Hey guys , I am just interested in my chances for a few schools I plan on applying to for computer engineering.

I'm a white male from WV.

I go to probably one of the most competitive (especially our class but I know that doesn't matter) high schools in the state... but that's not saying much .

Schools I'm interested in (order of importance , Most - least):
1. University of Texas
2. Virginia Tech
3. University of Virginia
4. Carnegie Mellon
5. University of Illinois
6. Rice
7. University of Maryland College park
8. Penn State.

Gpa : Weighted 4.385 . unwieghted , not sure but somewhere around 3.7-3.8 I'd guess. Oh and my current gpa is 5.0
Rank: 21/242 .

Sat score : 1 session, 650 English 690 Math 630 Writing (8 essay). [took twice] 1340/1600 1970/2400
Act : Haven't got back yet but my guess is that it's worse than my SAT

Sat II: 710 US history , 640 MathII ( could definitely do better on math , but most of my schools don't even care)

APs : Compsci A: 4. World History: 4. US History : 4

Current Classes. Ap Calc, Honors Physics, Honors Civics, Honors English , Advanced Programming, Webpage Developmen

ECs:
Serious triathlete for 4 years. I have won many age group divisions throughout the state.

Competitive Cyclist, have won local races in the youth category.

Varsity swim team member for 3 years (did not swim freshman year). State champions 2008.

Varsity cross country member senior year.

Electric/ Acoustic guitarist and songwriter.

Have started to program on my own in Java, and develop games in Actionscript.

Extra Comments: I am a current member of Super Smash Brothers Club, and (officially even though we haven't started yet) a member of Cycling Club. Even though we all know this stuff doesn't matter anyways lol.

Thanks everyone.

Texas - match
Penn State -match
Illinois - Match
V Tech - mid-low reach
i dont know about the rest

Chance back

Wait. Does your school use a 5 point scale system? I’m not sure if your GPA can be a 5.0 even if it were weighted unless you have an A+ on all AP classes?..

Yea we use 5 point scale system (an A in a honors class counts as 5 points). I just have strait A’s and I’m taking all honors classes. lol pretty nice eh?

University of Texas: Matrch

Virginia Tech: Low Reach

University of Virginia: Match

Carnegie Mellon: Mid-High Reach

University of Illinois: Match

Rice: High Reach

University of Maryland College park: Match

Penn State.: Match

Your scores are what are going to keep you from getting accepted to CM and/or Rice, otherwise I think you’re in everywhere else. Your ECs though I think might edge you into CM, though chances for Rice seem slim due to the low math scores.
Good Luck otherwise!

Chance me:

I really don’t think ^ he knows his stuff. UT has one of the best B programs in the nation, and McCombs is quite prestigious…

I’d say if you have all A’s

University of Texas: Reach

Virginia Tech: Low Reach

University of Virginia: Reach

Carnegie Mellon: Reach

University of Illinois: Slight Reach/High Match

Rice: Reach

University of Maryland College park: Match

Penn State.: Slight Reach

Illinois-IN for sure
I am an Illinois resident, and I will vouch for the entire state of Illinois that if you apply to Illinois, you will receive your admissions letter when the university sends them out.

Jimg: yea sorry not really an expert with the more local universities. I just gave my thought from what I’ve heard generally of the school’s difficulty. So i guess ignore my chances ><

I’d say you’re a match everywhere with the exception of Carnegie Mellon, Rice, and Illinois, which are reaches. Good luck!

Carnegie mellon, rice, and UT will be your only reaches. all the others seem like a match.

chance back?
