Hello. I am currently a first year at a Community College in Southern California. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to go to a school that is in the PAC-10 Conference. Now I am not solely basing my decision of transferring to a school if it is in the PAC-10 or not and I have done months of research.

I am hoping to major in Marketing, however, I am not one hundred percent sure.

I decided that I would apply to Arizona State University for the Spring of '11.

I have talked to an ASU representative and she has helped me plenty.

What are you initial thoughts about ASU? Academically?

I understand it has/had a reputation for being a party-school, however I have my mind set and am going there to work my off and not waste my parent's money.

I will also be applying to a pair of California Private Schools such as Saint Mary's College of California and Loyola Marymount University.

Do you have any advice? Any input is greatly appreciated. Please and thank you.

If ASU is a fit school, go there. I personally chose to turn down a full-ride there, but I was turned off by an advisor who recommended I limit my class choices to stuff that’s applicable to my major, rather than exploring stuff just for the hell of it. At my college, that’s never a problem. But Tempe is a great city, if you’re willing to explore a bit, and I’m sure you’ll end up making friends who have cars, if you don’t have your own (90% of AZ residents there will), and there’s great areas to explore just outside of Phoenix.

Academically, you can get a good education. Most the students there won’t take advantage of their professors, office hours, research and internship opportunities, so if you do you could stand out and get good relationships. Trying to schedule courses is a pain, and it seems like the students who care (i.e. work really hard to do well, live on or near campus, want to have a full college experience) are in the minority, but I feel like Zonies are generally friendly.

ASU is a great school, apply there if you feel like it!

Thank you. If everything goes as planned, I will be attending ASU in the Fall of '10.

I can’t wait. I’m excited to be a Sun Devil.

Any other opinions or thoughts about the University?

Its very big. Be sure its what you want.

Will you have any problems paying the costs? Will you have to pay OOS fees?

How much is the COA to attend as a Calif student?
