Interested in UCF!

Hello UCF Forum!

I am an outta-stater (NC via MN) who is quite interested in attending UCF.

Stat-wise:

African-American Male

GPA: 3.15/4.188
(my school weighs very oddly, +2pts for AP/IB, +1pt for pre-IB/honors)

SAT: 1430/1600... 2090/2400

PSAT: 215... praying I somehow end up in that list of National Merit Finalists, but I could be a National Achievement member as well

ACT: 30 (34math, 33rdg, 29eng, 25sci)
APs: Eng Lang-5, AB Calc-4, BC Calc-5, Human Geo-4, AP Stat-4

I will have taken 9 APs (one in both my freshmen and sophomore) year and 6 IB courses (only 4 IB exams because 2 of the IB courses were math class in which I took the AP exams)

However, from freshmen to junior year I have a negative grade trend... will be stellar senior year

Other Schools (various reasons): Stanford, Illinois College of Business, WashU, Wharton, Harvard, Clark Atlanta, and Harvard

So... I was wondering what are your guys thoughts about getting into the Burnett Honors program (especially with more apps, more competitiveness in admissions)?
Also, how easy is it to be in the business school while minoring in actuarial science?
Oh yeah, would being named a NMSF or Nat'l Achievement Finalist "secure" me a spot in UCF/Honors/scholarship despite some rough grades

Much love for the current Golden Knights
Played my best basketball there--and UCF has the best smoothies ever... forgot what dining hall or place it was

Hello,

Not sure what they're doing for upcoming year, but last year being named national merit semi/finalist ensured you a spot, automatically, I believe, in Burnett Honors College. Your GPA's quite a bit lower than my S's, but he also had one difficult yr. (spring soph/fall jr), relatively speaking. He's in Burnett. He had a 1410/1600 SAT and 32 ACT. Also had 9 AP's, which he passed, and that gives him 29 hours of credit towards his GEP's (with Clepping out of college algebra). If you were in-state, I'd say you were definitely in. Not sure how it enfolds for OSS in terms of numbers. Perhaps you should look at their website and see how the stats work for OSS, but my gut feeling is that if you make National Merit, you'ld be in.

Zebes .... oh, and as far as the business/actuarial science, not totally sure. However, my son's doing a B.A. in economics because it requires a minor, instead of the B.S., which doesn't. His ultimate goal is law school, and this allows him to take political science, psych or english lit ... to get some more analytical writing courses into the mix in prep for law school.

thank you for your response
