Hi!
I'm a junior at a VERY small (150 students) private high school in Boston. It is known for being really eccentric and intellectually rigorous, and because of this, it is extremely rare to see a transcript with all A's. Most kids have A's and B's or B' and C's (or some combination.) All classes are taught at the college level, so all my courses are AP-level.

Anyhow, I visited Vassar earlier this year and I absolutely fell in love with it! If you have a spare moment, I have a few questions about Vassar, and it would be very helpful if you could chance me.

W GPA: 4.3
UW GPA: 3.3-4ish (school doesn't calculate this)
SAT: CR 770 M 720 W 720 Total: 2210
(I haven't taken AP's or SAT II's yet, but I'm going to in a month!)
Extracurriculars:
Drama- Lead Roles in 2-3 plays per school year (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior)
--over the summer I do at least 1 or 2 full length plays and then usually 5-7 one-acts
Voice Lessons (F, S, J)
Prom Committee (Co-head) (J)
Literary Magazine (F, S, J)
Jazz Ensemble (J)
Shakespeare Competition (F, S, J)
Swimming & Water Aerobics (Founder and Co-head) (S)
Cheese Club (F, S, J)
Peer Mental Health Group (Founder and Co-head) (J)
Downton Abbey Discussion Circle (Founder and Co-head) (J)
Worked at college radio station (WERS) (F)
Volunteer at Assisted Living Home (S, J)

I would love to double major in Drama and English. What is the work like at Vassar? Do you ever feel overwhelmed? How are the professors? Favorite classes? Schools similar to Vassar?

well, off the bat, i have to say 3.3-4.0 is a HUGE range unweighted. my school doesn’t weight, but from what i’ve heard a 4.3 isn’t insanely great. it’s hard to say how well your grades hold up without knowing your actual classes/the grades in them if you don’t have an accurate UW.

besides that, you seem solid with test scores. the drama is definitely a great EC with your level of commitment. however, quite a few of your ECs seemed tacked on for the sake of padding your resum

also, while i can’t answer the majority of your questions since i haven’t started freshman year yet, i can tell you some similar schools. all the ones i’m mentioning have great repuatations and are academically rigourous.
Brown - very often compared to Vassar in terms of student body, if you don’t mind that its a uni. in a surburban(y) setting (just dont wander too far)
Wesleyan - very, very similar student body. many students choose between these two schools
Grinnell - also a pretty quirky student body, although its in a rural part of iowa
Middlebury - not too similar, but one that many Vassar admits are considering going to. much more athletic and typical NE LAC than Vassar.
Haverford - very laid back vibe, the student body is more “normal” but they aren’t really preppy

“i count 8 that you only did for one year, and ones like “downton abbey dicussion circle” really don’t mean much, even though you “founded” it.”

Perhaps the information I put up is misleading. Quite a number of the EC’s I put up are only clubs I’m in for the sake of being in them (didn’t know if they had any significance when I was writing the post…) I didn’t join/start the clubs to “pad” my college resume, but I do know that colleges hate that. Other than that, my school simply has an eccentric roster of clubs…none are really created with the college process in mind. People do things they like to do!

Thanks for the recommendations! One of the things I really liked about Vassar was how unaffected people seemed by “college sports”. I really liked that academics and other related activities were emphasized.
