I've been looking into Pomona a lot, it's my number one pick but I was just wondering exactly how the Claremont Colleges work together and such. I tried requesting info off their website but it wouldn't let me so maybe if current students could let me know what their deciding factor was in choosing Pomona. Thanks...

at first, money was in issue for me, since pomona is very gererous, but brown and dartmouth ended up matching pomona's offer anyways. some of the things that i liked about pomona were that the administration was very approachable; everybody there seemed to have made their college selection by themselves and not let the name of the school discourage them (i know for me at least, nobody in tennessee has heard of pomona, so it would have been a lot easier to tell people that i was going somewhere like nyu, brown, dartmouth, etc.); just this year they dropped half of their required classes, which gives you a lot of opportunities to explore different interests. i just cannot emphasize how approachable the administration is and how different it is from the other schools. most of the students are on a first-name basis with the admissions officers, etc. also, pomona has a more laid-back atmosphere without a lot of studdy pretense- granted, brown and dartmouth were not that bad in the first place, but you could still tell a difference. in conclusion, it's just a great, great school and i am definitely excited about starting there in the fall!

When I visited, I really liked the people there. They seemed fun, smart, and laid-back, and the whole sponsor group system seemed like a really good support program for freshmen. I also liked the whole consortium idea - it allows you to have small classes where you can get to know your professors, while also having the opportunities (classes and extra-curriculars) and resources (5-college library, multiple dining halls to eat at, etc.) of a university. Being in California was definitely a plus, and the financial aid was the best (a little better than WUSTL and a lot better than Emory or Northwestern). These combined factors helped me choose Pomona.
