<p>Don’t do Internal Medicine. Work hard and match into a ROAD specialty.</p>
<p>We’ve always advised students not to go into medicine for the money. It’s just not that good. That said, it’s still a wonderful profession that is challenging. If you like challenges, if you like learning, interacting with people, and dealing with people on a basic level (their health), then medicine is still a rewarding profession. You certainly aren’t going to be living on the street with a doctor’s salary.</p>
<p>I agree with norcalguy but with high malpractice and a lawsuit happy society it is making it impossible for doctors to catch a break.</p>
<p>medicine needs to be entered as a passion, not a profession. Some docs are making excellent money, but they make many sacrifices for it.</p>
