On monday, I received a very interesting email from the NASC coordinating team.

They said that no interviewer was available in the area.

What was interesting and odd about my letter was that it was to the wrong person.

They stated Dear (Not my name), blah blah blah. Unfortunately, all of our available interviewers in and around (My Town) have reached or exceeded their capacity this year, so unfortunately our office will be unable to fulfill your request.

Could this be a database error or something?

I emailed them back asking to clarify but I have not received a reply yet.

It is probably just an error, referring to the name on the e-mail. A lot of “no interview” messages were sent out this week and they are done individually by a couple of staff members. It is not a mail merged system, and therefore human error is always possible. If you e-mailed the NASC account back, you will get a response. It may not be immediate, as you can imagine there are a lot of e-mails that team must go through at this time of year.

It may seem late to some that we are just now letting students who requested interviews know that we are unable to accommodate their request. However, the late time frame is because the alumni interview team makes a huge effort to accommodate as many interview requests as possible. The number of requests every year far surpass the capacity our alumni interviews can handle, but we try as hard as possible to match interviewers with applicants. Basically, the team works up until the last possible date.

Always remember, interviews are not required and they are informational. Not having an interview in no way will impact your application.

Does the no-interview email have absolutely no bearing on our apps or mean that our files have been somewhat decided so the priority is given to potentials? I can understand the latter because it won’t waste each other’s time, as well as raise our false expectations. If this’s the case, I’d rather know it now that wait for another two weeks. I know you and JH site have described Interviews but just want to ask direct.
