Interior Design; switch from my HD major to this or should I double major...

Hi, can anyone who is currently studying interior design (particularly at SDSU) tell me more about your experience and studies? I am really interested interior design and would like to learn and practice more of it. I am currently a 3rd year at UCSD as a human development major; I have 9 more classes to go to graduate but my heart really is not in it anymore... I know ONLY 9 more classes, but I feel like 1) a fraud in that I don't really feel passionate about what I've learned and currently learning, and 2)I could use the money to pay for those classes for something I am more interested in.

Additionally, I've taken a break from UCSD for about a year now (fall 2011-spring 2012) for health reasons... now I don't feel capable mentally and emotionally returning. So now I'm contemplating either really pushing through (but putting my mental health at risk) then go back to school to get a BFA in interior design .. oorrr... just drop out, relieve the stress and pursue my passion?

Looking at the housing market right now, I would advise you to stay away from interior design. Nobody is able to take out a second mortgage in order to re-design their houses, since the lending market has grown increasingly more restricted about who they lend to. Don’t drop out, because you are almost there. Wouldn’t all of that time and money have been wasted if you stop now? I used to do interior designing as a major, but I worried a lot about the current economy and how much debt I would be in if I pursued the Interior design major. It is fun to do, however, you shouldn’t always follow your passion, because it may lead you down the wrong path, and you might end up hating that passion. I love cars. Adding performance parts, racing them, and all of that jazz. However, I would never become a mechanic because I only want to work on my own car on my own time, not fixing as many customers cars as possible just to make a good salary.

Thanks Scientificmind, I hadnt considered the housing market… But I was thinking working more so for companies and creating workspaces. But yeah, even with that, it’s going to be a crapshoot right? What did you change your major to if you dont mind me asking?
