Interlochen as a Sophomore?

I'm currently an eighth grader and was wondering what year the majority of Interlochen students enter the school. I first thought that most students would start as freshmen but I was corrected. I want to attend the arts summer camp this year, prepare my portfolio and myself and immerse myself in my regular high school honors classes next year, and then start Interlochen as a freshman. Does that seem like a good plan? Can any current or past Interlochen students tell me what they did?

Did you mean start as a repeat freshman, or did you mean start as a sophomore, as stated in the title of your post?

My son attended IAC between 8th and 9th grade and loved it. He attended 9th grade at our local HS. He then went to IAA for 10-12th grades. He was a theatre major and it was a great experience.
The majority of students who attend IAA go in as juniors or seniors.
If any questions, please feel free to PM me.

I am currently a Junior at Interlochen and this is my first year. The majority of students are either Juniors or Seniors. Most people will say that Junior year is the best year to start. The summer camp is a very different feel than the Academy. It has about 3,000 students compared to 500 during the school year and no academic classes.

Pm me if you have any questions about the program.

My D is a senior at IAA in voice. Most students come as Jr or Sr. She LOVES it and I would recommend it to anyone serious about music/arts. PM if you need info.
